This affirmed what I have started to do with creating art. It has brought the fun into it and taken out perfection and inhibition. This is overflowing into my life as it shifted dramatically last year with the death of my mother and a dear friend. I am taking the time and small steps to create a new way of being and new habits.

Amen my friend. Joy is strength and brings fulfillment and a sense of purpose in your work. That combination is what gives us confidence to explore and innovate fearlessly. Keep moving forward because some needs to hear how you overcame and got victory!!!

Hey Steve thanks for this. I’m trying to change my work habits. “Work” for the last 40 years has meant getting up & sitting at a computer, doing research, writing, having meetings. I had systems. They worked. I loved that work. But I was forced to close that business last year & I decided to do something completely different. Now “work” means being in my studio, leading therapeutic arts groups, & creating community. There’s still some computer time & meetings but it’s been challenging breaking the habit of starting the day at the computer. And then the day is gone. This was a great reminder on how I set up the habits and systems for my previous work & that I need to remake those habits. I’ll start today.

Hey Kelly thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this topic. I know all about losing the day. I started a morning routine to combat my problem with scrolling. The secret for me has always been consistency. Ease into your new habits and make them super easy to accomplish and soon they will become second nature

You got this friend.

steve we are soooo in alignment fam! Lol love this article. I really appreciate the practical concrete steps on habit formation. I still haven’t read atomic habits, but I really appreciate how you summarized and gave some good practical applications for growing habits. 🙏🏽

Man I wish I had this information years ago when I started out. Atomic Habits is a great read and its easy to digest. If you develop solid habits the skills follow and I didn’t really understand until recently how our environment effects our habits in a major way, its so deep how we are influenced in the smallest ways that can bring about such great change

Honestly, this is one of the things that brought me to Zen and Buddhism. Is that appreciation for the subtle body and how small acts create powerful changes. I was in the dark a few years ago go and told myself, if I wanna create change, I have to work on myself on a fundamental level, of every subtle level and I started with meditating two minutes a day. It was so difficult! lol but I was able to grow the practice. But I have to continue to return to this reality. That big changes happen with small acts.

I can appreciate your testimony. As a Christian my faith and relationship in Christ informs everything I do. What grieves me is how the faith is always being hijacked and whitewashed to fit the narrative of White Supremacy an oppression. What I love about Creative people from all diciplines is the common spiritual throughly we all experience regardless of our faith. Is very powerful to hear the similarities we share and how its applied to our practices!!!
